Gentle and sweet, Alex needs and wants affection, but does not like to compete with more gregarious dogs.  It is well worth the effort to work your way through the welcoming committee of free dogs to Alex's hiding place by the storeroom and coax her out for some attention.  A perfect example of what the efforts of a volunteer can do, one insisted that Alex come out of the storeroom and go with her for a walk in the sanctuary.  Alex was so terrified at first that she had to be carried back to the storeroom, but day by day she grew braver.  After a few weeks, what a surprise it was for us all to see  Alex on the other side of the sanctuary, bravely running up the path without a leash.  She is still afraid of thunderstorms and stay's close to Ahmet's room when it rains, but this sweet little dog is coming out of her shell.  She benefits enormously from the regular attention.  It is always a wonderful when one of our dogs gets a foster family, but for Alex, this was one of the most important days of her life, a dream come true.

Bütün nazikliği ve tatlılığıyla Alex ilgiye ihtiyaç duyuyor ancak diğer sokulgan köpeklerle aşık atamayacak kadar ürkek. Barınma Merkezi'nde serbest dolaşan köpeklerden oluşan karşılama komitesini geçtikten sonra onu saklandığı depodan çıkarıp ilgi göstermeye ikna edebilirseniz bunun çabanıza değdiğini göreceksiniz. Alex gönüllülelerin çabasının neler yapabileceğinin en güzel örneği çünkü bir gün gönüllülerimizden biri ona saklandığı depodan çıkıp barınma merkezinde kendisiyle bir yürüyüşe çıkması için ısrar etti. Alex başta o kadar dehşete kapılmıştı ki dönüş yolunda depoya kucakta taşınmak zorunda kalmıştı ancak günden güne cesareti arttı. Birkaç hafta sonra Alex'i barınma merkezinin öbür tarafında, tasmasız bir şekilde koşarken görmek hepimiz için sürpriz olmuştu. Hala gök gürültüsünden korkan ve yağmur yağdığında Ahmet'in odasının yakınlarında olmayı tercih eden bu küçük tatlı köpek kabuğunu kırmayı başardı. Gördüğü düzenli ilgiden çok fayda sağlıyor. Bir köpeğin koruyucu aile sahibi olması her zaman mükemmel olsa da, Alex'in rüyalarının gerçek olduğu o gün onun hayatının en önemli günlerinden biriydi.
